The link between the traditional and the modern, which runs through the 2011/12 season like a Leitmotiv, also characterizes the programme of the Symphonic in the foyer. In their first matinée they juxtapose chamber music by Mozart with works of Alfred Schnittke (d.1998), whose concerto for viola in Martin Schläpfer’s choreography will set the tone of the b.11 ballet evening.
Mozart’s Oboe Quartet in F major KV370 will be contrasted against Schnittke’s “Moz-Art” for two violins and further works by the Russian composer with German roots which also refer to those whom he took as models. Mezzo-soprano Katarzyna Kuncio, who was well received last season as Dorabella in the “Così fan tutte” première (she will appear again in the rôle in the coming season), will be heard in Mozart’s concert aria “Ch’io mi scordi di te”, KV505. Generalmusikdirektor Axel Kober will play the piano part in the aria and also in the famous piano quintet in E flat major KV 452, which Mozart composed in 1986, the year of the first performance of “Le nozze di Figaro”.
